Solartech Chief Engineer Introduced Solar Irrigation at WIF

On Nov 7, 2016, Solartech chief engineer Dr. Xu Zheng delivered the keynote speech on the application technology of solar pumping irrigation system at the 2nd World Irrigation Forum (WIF2) in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Dr. Xu Zheng is the chief engineer and co-founder of Solartech, and the professor in Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University. He is also the creator of solar pumping technology and the advocator of solar pumping applications in China.
 

 
Dr. Xu Zheng’s speech introduced the global applications of solar pumping system, solar seawater (brackish water) desalination system, solar water-saving irrigation system, in order to achieve remarkable water-saving effect to increase agricultural production.

There are 3 sub-themes on this WIF2: key issues of irrigation and drainage in balancing water, food, energy and ecology; climatic extremes management and cautions for floods and droughts; key smart actions to alleviate hunger and poverty through irrigation and drainage. On the 3 sub-theme activities, the solar irrigation sub-forum was held specially which hosted by Mr. Gao Zhanyi, the honorary president of World Irrigation and Drainage Committee. Participating experts and scholars from Pakistan, India, Republic of Korea and South Africa have delivered speeches about the solar pumping system demonstrations in different fields. Dr. Xu Zheng and other participating experts had answered associated question asked by the representatives.
 


 
Solartech solar pumping system technology has been applied to solar water-saving irrigation for desert control in Takla Makan Desert in 2001, and applied to build the world’s first solar pumping technology research & demonstration base in Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University in 2004, it was firstly applied in Southeast Asian solar agriculture irrigation in Bangladesh in 2008, and firstly applied to African solar living water supply in Uganda in 2009, and applied to the first solar sea water desalination system without battery on a Nansha island in 2010. Solartech was awarded Global Human Settlements Model of Green Technology by United Nation in 2014. Solartech became the first listed company specialized in solar pumping industry in 2016.

Solartech Solar Pumping Technology Research Center
 
Solartech solar pumping technology research center led by Academician Lu Qiang  and Dr. Xu Zheng is jointly operated by Shenzhen Solartech Renewable Energy Co., Ltd., National Key Laboratory of Power System in Shenzhen and HKU and Tsinghua Shenzhen Power System Research Institute. The research team is comprised of academicians, doctorates and masters.
 
Solartech Solar Pumping System Demonstration Base
 
Solartech launched the solar pumping system application field study since 2008. In 2011, Solartech designed the solar water pumping grassland irrigation standards for China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research. In 2012, Solartech participated in the design of foreign-aid standards of solar pumping system for  Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
 
Food and ecology are crucial to the survival and development of human society. As the world’s population continues to increase, the crises of energy and water are becoming increasingly serious, combined with environmental pollution caused by human activities, land desertification, arable land decrease and grassland degradation, a sustainable development mode is urgently required to promote social progress. Years of practices has proved that solar water conservancy technology can advance the healthy development of solar industry, ensure the realization of energy saving and emission reduction. In the fields of agricultural infrastructure establishment, production increase in food, grass and meat, ecological environment improvement, desert control, borderland construction and targeted poverty alleviation, the solar water conservancy technology has comprehensive benefits and huge market potential.
 
Holding the special solar irrigation sub-forum to discuss the topic of solar pumping irrigation system is to combine the solar pumping technology to the existing knowledge and experience of irrigation and drainage industry and promote global solar water conservancy development.
