Project Location: Ulanbuh Desert, Inner Mongolia
Project Introduction: Ulanbuh Desert is one of the eight largest deserts in China, it is located in Alxa League and Bayannaoer League of Inner Mongolia, where is situated at drought and rainless temperate climate zone. Blown sand, limited rainfall, high evaporation are the main natural hazards of Ulanbuh Desert. Less rainfall but large evaporation and lack of water is the current situations Ulanbuh Desert is facing with. The Inner Mongolia Hetao general office’s exploration data shows that the common underground water is 5-8m deep, the surface water resource is rich, with abundant sunlight, the developments of agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and fishery can be ensured. Solar pumping technology has become the first choice to local irrigation projects.
Solution: The government has always been attaching great importance on the Ulanbuh desert control, the first work can be traced back to 1968, and a series of preferential policies have successively been introduced. “The Promotion Opinions of Ulanbuh Desert Control Industry” issued by local government proposed to enhance the policy design to integrate the projects of land, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and water conservancy, formulate preferential policies, and solve water and power shortages on desert control and afforestation.
Respond to government’s call, Inner Mongolia KeSheng Solar Technology and the creator of solar pumping system and solar powered water pump Shenzhen Solartech Renewable Energy, built the solar pumping desert control pilot project together in Ulanbuh Desert,The project applied Solartech SPA63K0100 solar pumping irrigation system with 40m head and 100m3 daily water flow, it can produce enough water for irrigation and livestock. Solar pumping system has become a practical solution for desert control, it can dramatically increase the tree survival rate. The application of solar pumping system can effectively promote the developments of local sand industry, the desert control, the comprehensive land utilization as well as the construction of the character agriculture bases.
Economic Benefit: 11,377kWh of electricity generated annually; 107.1 tons of coal saving, 47.1 tons of CO2, 2.1 tons of SO2, 1.6 tons of smoke and 27.8 tons of ash reductions in its 25-year service life.
Social Benefit: In order to prevent the Ulanbuh Desert from expanding to the east, and protect the ecology safety of the Yellow River, Inner Mongolia has fully started the comprehensive control project in nearly 100,000 hectares from 2012. The local Desert Control Bureau said, during 2005 to 2007, there was 6,666 hectares greenbelt increased in Ulanbuh Desert each year, the forest coverage rate has increased from 4.5% in the late 1990s to 15.3%, desert control area has reached to 80,000 hectares, which had effectively improved the ecological environment of the desert areas.
